Which speed should I pick?
1.25× tightens a talking-head video without viewers noticing. 1.5× is the speed many people already use to watch lectures. 2× halves a recipe or craft clip and is about the ceiling for speech that people can still follow comfortably. 3–4× is for montage: cleaning, painting, assembling, travel footage with music on top.
Speed up without losing quality
A normal export re-encodes the picture with H.264. At the default setting that is visually close to the source, but it is still a new encode. If your file is MP4 or MOV, Quick mode under More options keeps the original compressed frames and only changes their timing, so there is zero quality loss and it finishes in seconds. Because no frames are dropped, the frame rate rises with the speed (2× on 30 fps gives 60 fps), which most phones and browsers play fine.
Speeding up on an iPhone or Android phone

How do I speed up a video for free?
Open the video in the tool above, choose 1.5×, 2×, 3× or 4× (or any value up to 4× on the slider), press “Change speed” and download the MP4. It is free, has no watermark and your file is not uploaded.
Can I speed up a video without the audio sounding high-pitched?
Yes. Leave “Keep the voice’s pitch” selected. FFmpeg’s atempo filter shortens the audio without raising its pitch. It sounds natural up to about 2×; beyond that speech becomes hard to follow, though it stays at the right pitch.
What is quick mode?
For MP4 and MOV files, quick mode rescales the video timestamps without re-encoding the picture, so a 5-minute clip can be done in seconds with no quality loss. The catch: every original frame is kept, so 4× on a 30 fps clip plays at 120 fps. Some players and social apps handle that poorly; if yours does, use the normal export.
How do I fast forward part of a video?
Use Start and End under “More options” to cut out the section you want sped up, export it, then join it back in your editor. VidSpeed changes one continuous section at a time.
Can I go faster than 4×?
Yes, in the timelapse tool, which goes up to 60× and drops the audio, since sound at that speed is only noise.
